NUMBERED BOTTLES | LIMITED EDITION | FIRST AUSSIE ALLOCATION | FREE PRUSSERS TIN CUP | NAVY PROOF STRENGTH
Famous for their rums that honour the British Naval tradition, it’s only fitting that Pusser’s Rum have released a limited edition rum to commemorate the Coronation of the King of England – King Charles III. And the Rum Tribe is proud to have the first stock in Australia – just off the boat!
The Pusser’s Coronation Reserve is 100% Caribbean Rum from select stills in Guyana and Trinidad. Both pot and column-distilled rum is featured in this blend and the spirit is presented at the ‘Navy Proof’ strength of 54.4%Abv. Offered as a strictly limited, individually numbered, edition It is directly inspired by the ‘tot’ – the daily ration of rum distributed to Royal Navy sailors and last served on July 31, 1970.
Pusser’s has an almost iconic association with the British Navy – and so they felt it only fitting to issue a limited edition, ‘Naval Style’ rum as their ‘Coronation Reserve’. After all – Navy Style is what Pusser’s does BEST! And not only is King Charles III the head of all British armed forces, he is also a former serving member of the Royal Navy.
Now, as we all know – our dear Queen Elizabeth passed in 2022 and was succeeded to the crown by her son Charles III. The ‘Coronation’ is the official investiture of a new Monarch – and is the cause for much celebration, pomp and well… ‘grand-ness’ I guess! The culmination of the ‘official’ event is the crown being placed on the new Monarchs Head. No doubt, the culmination of millions of ‘unofficial’ events around England and the world had a measure of rum raised and drunk in toast!
Our Tasting Notes
Nose: Wow – I had to check the label – no this isn’t a spiced rum, but you could have fooled me… almost! Lots of lovely sweet spices on the nose along with aniseed, cloves and subtle fairy floss notes.
Palate: Lovely and rich on the palate – some mild white pepper but then sweet fruit mince with a sprinkling of those sweet spices from the nose in the mix.
Finish: A rather crisp and dry finish – no doubt the column still component of the spirit doing its thing. The fruitiness leaves quickly and it fades into an exploration of those spices once more.
This is a really interesting rum. Waaay too easy to drink at 54.5% abv for your own good I can tell you. It’s nice and sweet on the palate – which sits nicely with the spice notes – but not too sweet. I’m assuming there is some sugar added here (no mention on the label) – and it works well with those spice notes whilst also tempering the shock of that high abv. The crisp notes from the column stills in the blend keeps the sweetness in check.
From Prusser’s Rum
Pusser’s Rum Limited has crafted a limited-edition Naval rum from select stills in Guyana and Trinidad to salute the coronation of King Charles III and Queen Consort Camilla on 6 May 2023. As the Crown of Saint Edward is placed upon the head of King Charles, we ask that you lift your drinking vessel high and toast the new King and Queen of the United Kingdom and its Commonwealth.
This fine blend of aged rum is at 54.5% (Navy Proof) and similar to that served on the 31st day of July 1970 when the Admiralty discontinued its daily issue of rum to Ships’ Companies, ending the longest tradition in seafaring history.
Nose: Long finish of perfectly balanced aromas of caramel, spices and dried fruit.
Finish: Smooth fruity taste, with notes of deliciously creamy vanilla and oak.
