Rated 4.5 Starsย by the Fat Rum Pirate
The first release of Mutiny – South Pacific was an 11 and a half year old, tropical and dry-aged, monster of a rum which slayed our members, and critics, alike. The Fat Rum Pirate called it โeasily one of the best Fujian rums Iโve ever triedโ and gave it 4 ยฝ stars.
So how do you top that? Simple really. Firstly find the oldest known 100% tropical aged rum from a South Pacific distillery. Then bottle it at its natural cask strength. Thatโs right โ the Mutiny โ South Pacific V.2 is a tropical aged, 21 year old, 65%ABV powerhouse of molasses based fury!
This will be a collectorโs item as it is very very limited and we are proud to offer it exclusively in Australia to the Rum Tribe. Get some!
Our Tasting Notes
Nose: Funky Banana and tropical fruit salad, biscuit spices and some clove notes as well as a definite floral (frangipani?) presence in the mix there as well.
Palate: The pot still origin of this rum is quite evident by the lovely oily mouthfeel it exhibits. A lot more delicate flavours apparent here than I was expecting too โ much tropical fruit โ but also fresh granny smith apple notes. Lovely biscuit spice flavours as well as vanilla, ginger and mixed peel. The high alcohol content is extremely well integrated with little burn or harshness (especially so considering the abv). What you do get, however, is a massive flavour hit and esters by the pound โ man this is delicious!
Finish: The absolute definition of a chewy finish on this one. Big, funky, tropical fruit salad but the sticky sweetness is tempered by the dry tannins from the 21 years in wood. Luxurious and constantly evolving, and so, so long – it stretches all the way to the moon and back โฆ in fat, thatโs the exact amount I love this rum!!
The Mutiny – South Pacific 21yo is an absolutely massive rum. At 65%ABV thatโs no big surprise โ but what does catch you (wellโฆ me) off-guard is just how incredibly easy it is to sip on. Itโs not harsh or hot or rough on the palate โ but be warnedโฆ the high alcohol content is incredibly well integrated but have no doubt about it – the 65%ABV will smite you hard if you forget just what youโre dealing with!
From Dead Reckoning
Over the past two years I have received multiple requests from Dead Reckoning rum lovers for me to bring out a cask strength release. A request like this set me on the hunt for something that was not only palatable at 65% and not too hot to handle but also had a flavour profile that wasnโt overtaken by the cask strength.
The South Pacific 21 year Pot still fitted all of those categories, this will be to date oldest 100% Tropical aged rum to come out of the South Pacific distillery.
The Rum spent 21 years in the high humidity & volatile environment of the tropics in an ex bourbon barrel. Its angels share (85%) is testament to its journey.
With an incredible flavour profile of funky banana bread, stewed Apple and rhubarb, creaming Soda.
Just like a genie thatโs been stuck in a bottle for 21 years, this baby needs time to breathe ; pour in your glass and be patient, let it sit for 10 to 15 minutes.

About Mutiny
The mutiny on the Royal Navy vessel HMS Bounty occurred in the South Pacific Ocean on 28 April 1789. Disaffected crewmen, led by acting-Lieutenant Fletcher Christian, seized control of the ship from their captain, Lieutenant William Bligh, and set him and 18 loyalists adrift in the ship’s open launch.
The mutineers variously settled on Tahiti or on Pitcairn Island. Bligh navigated more than 3,500 nautical miles (6,500 km; 4,000 mi) in the launch to reach safety and began the process of bringing the mutineers to justice.
Bounty had left England in 1787 on a mission to collect and transport breadfruit plants from Tahiti to the West Indies.
A five-month layover in Tahiti, during which many of the men lived ashore and formed relationships with native Polynesians, led many men to be less amenable to military discipline. Relations between Bligh and his crew deteriorated after he began handing out increasingly harsh punishments, criticism and abuse, Christian being a particular target.
After three weeks back at sea, Christian and others forced Bligh from the ship. Twenty-five men remained on board afterwards, including loyalists held against their will and others for whom there was no room in the launch.
The area known as the Bligh Water is the body of water (approximately 9500 kmยฒ in extent) surrounding the western Fiji islands.
