Description
Welcome to a rum built from the heaviest, richest cuts of a 45 plate Coffey still, aged long and hot in ex bourbon casks until it roars with tropical intensity โ The Admiral Romney HMS Royal Oak!
Saint Lucia Distillers donโt muck about – theyโre the Caribbeanโs quiet assassins of quality, turning out some of the most character packed column still rums on the planet.
Tropically aged in ex-bourbon casks for between 7 and 12 years and blended by Head Blender Deny Duplessis (known for his meticulous cask selection). Presented at 40%abv, the HMS Royal Oak has no added sugar or colouring โ just 100% tropically aged, โTraditional Rumโ as it is termed under the Gargano Classification System.
HMS Royal Oak is the Admiral Romney brands original blend. Distilled in the Saint Lucia Distillers 45 plate โCoffeyโ still, the spirit for the HMS Royal Oak is drawn from only the lower plates (the higher the plate, roughly, the higher the purity). The spirit from the lower plates is not as highly refined as what comes from the higher plates in the column, if you like. This translates into a heavier, more flavourful spirit (the higher the purity, the less flavour compounds, the less flavour) that is known as one of the worldโs best pure column distilled rums.

Named after the ships that helped Admiral Rodney smash the French at the Battle of the Saints, this range is all about precision, pedigree, and pure Saint Lucian swagger. No sugar, no shortcuts, no nonsense – just clean, complex, dangerously drinkable rum that proves column still doesnโt mean โlightโโฆit means laser focused flavour with serious firepower.
The ship this rum was named for – HMS Royal Oak – was in the vanguard of ships to engage the French in the famous Battle of the Saints. Captained by Thomas Burnett, the Royal Oak maneuverer skilfully and brought to bear all of her 74 guns on the enemy for the duration of the battle. With 8 men lost and 20 wounded, the Royal Oak played an integral role in the first skirmishes of the battle and encouraged us to create a rum of rarity, intensity, and boldness.
Our Tasting Notes
Nose: Warm, inviting and unmistakably Saint Lucian. Think ripe sultanas, prunes, and stewed tropical fruits, wrapped in toasty bourbonโoak, vanilla pod, and a flicker of pipe tobacco. A gentle lift of baking spice and orange peel rounds it out.
Palate: Silky and full without ever feeling sweetened. Waves of raisin, caramelised banana, toasted oak, dark honey, and cocoa nib roll through, followed by a deeper layer of tobacco leaf, nutmeg, and a hint of charred pineapple. The Coffeyโstill backbone brings a clean structure beneath all that richness.
Finish: Long, warming, and beautifully balanced. Vanilla, oak spice, dried fruit, and a touch of dark chocolate linger, with a subtle tannic grip that reminds you this spent serious time in hot Saint Lucian bourbon casks.
A rich, fruitโforward, oakโdriven Caribbean sipper with zero gimmicks – just honest tropical ageing and heavyโplate Coffeyโstill character. Royal Oak is the โcomfortโfoodโ expression of the Admiral Rodney fleet: lush, warm, and dangerously easy to pour again.
